imbibed in the spirit of self-less devotion and service to the nation. I am happy to note that BRAC

Vice
Chancellor's Message
Professor Ainun Nishat

Vice Chancellor
BRAC University
My heartiest congratulations to the graduating class of 2011, the sixth batch of students graduating from
BRAC University.
BRAC University continues to march ahead on the road to progress and
development. With each passing year, we continue to develop our curriculum to bring it up-to-date with the latest development in the
academic field. We also add newer subjects into the academic curriculum to provide our students a wider
array of choices. Only last year we added three Bachelors programmes in Pharmacy, Biotechnology and
Microbiology. We believe that our graduates will add to the growing need of skilled manpower in these vital
areas of development. That we are providing high quality of education is evident from the fact that our
graduates today are well-placed in the corporate world, pursuing higher education in some of the top
universities in the world, are involved in cutting-edge research activities in prestigious research laboratories.
All these have been possible due to the hard work and dedication of the students, high-quality teaching by
our highly qualified faculty and a service-oriented, dedicated staff. I must also
recall with gratitude the timely guidance and directives that we received from the Board of Trustees, and especially its Chairperson, Sir
Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG. I am also grateful to the members of the Academic Council for their help and
advice. I also recall with gratitude the sincere cooperation that we receive from our founding organization
BRAC, almost on daily basis.
On this auspicious day, my advice to the graduating students would be to proceed further with the solid
foundation that we have laid here in BRAC University. The world outside is full of challenges and pitfalls;
there are great opportunities as well the danger of failures. I am sure you are amply prepared to overcome all
obstacles and challenges and go forward to win the laurels of success. I would urge upon all of you to not
only work towards your self-improvement, but to give something back to the society that has nurtured you all
along.
I congratulate the parents and guardians for the sacrifices they made in getting their wards where they are
today. I pray for the success of the graduating students and wish them all the best as they set out on their
new journeys.
Convocation
Speaker's Messages
Mary Robinson

Convocation Speaker
Former President of Ireland
I am honoured and delighted to be the guest speaker at the 6th Convocation of BRAC University on
February 7th 2011.
BRAC University is young, but it has much to offer in showing how to inspire young women and men
with the knowledge, skills and motivation to pursue productive lives in our complex and interconnected
world.
The link between BRAC and the university provides a source of evidence based knowledge on how
to empower poor people - particularly women - to achieve their potential. Those graduating this
year, and in previous years, must feel a particular pride in that connection, and have an empathy with
the need to bridge the knowledge gap between those who have been fortunate enough to benefit
from university education and the less well educated majority of the population.
I commend BRAC University
- its founders, leaders, faculty and administration, for the fine work they have been doing over the years. I look forward to meeting the class of 2011, and listening to
their ideas about the major challenges of our world. In particular, I would like to share some ideas
about the concept of climate justice, linking climate change, development and human rights.
Bangladesh is known as a country giving leadership on the challenge of climate change, and I know I
will be stimulated and inspired by my visit to BRAC University.
