Shampa Maria D'Costa

Abstract

Objective

The objective of this study is to understand the sexual behavior of married women and the decision making role in the use of family planning/family size and childbearing in Bangladesh. In a typical patriarchal society like Bangladesh, gender plays a major factor in defining social roles, family responsibilities, and power relationships within the family. Under the circumstances majority of the girls at the time of their marriage have only a vague or no knowledge of the sexual life in which they enter soon after marriage. It is often supposed that women in poorer communities with difficult lives rarely have a desire for sex.
