Abstract
Background
About 13% of maternal death world wide are due to unsafe abortion. In Bangladesh, 3.7% of all married women reported induced abortion. Menstrual regulation had been legalized in Bangladesh since the past two centuries and the rate of MR clients are reported to be increasing. However, 20% of all clients attending MR facility are turned away because they present themselves beyond ten weeks gestation period [illegal time period for MR]. 50% of the rejected women resort to other ways such as traditional healers, village doctors, individual attempts and others, leading to death or life long disability.
