Faria Shabnam
Abstract
The intellectually disabled children, who constitute 1% to 3% of the population in the world, have lower nutritional status, a shorter life expectancy; higher levels of unmet health needs than their counterpart and are often neglected by the society. Despite the high costs of Intellectual Disability in health and social care, there has been very little evidence-based care practice for these children. Although disability is a major social and economic phenomenon in Bangladesh, there is very little reliable data available on this issue, especially in the absence of a comprehensive national survey on persons with disabilities. No reliable data on the anthropometrical nutritional status and food intake pattern of intellectual disabled children are available in Bangladesh. To our knowledge this is the first study which highlighted those unexplored areas.
