Exploring The Perception Of Guardians About Child Drowning In Rural Bangladesh
Shamim Ahmed
Abstract
Different studies show that infants drowned in ponds and ditches near their residence, and not in lakes or rivers at further distances from their residence. Toddlers (1-4 years) mainly drowned in ponds and ditches outside the home, and in buckets, tubs and drums inside and in the house yard. More than three quarters of drowning took place in bodies of water less than 20 metres from the house. Infants drowned in bodies of water very close to the house, within 10 mitres.
