Abstract

In Bangladesh, although abortion is legally restricted, early menstrual lregulation (MR) by vacuum aspiration2 (VA) (an interim method to establish a state of non pregnancy) has been widely available through public, NGOs and private facilities for more than two decades. Nowadays, “MR and unsafe abortion” is one of the reproductive health care packages under Health and Population Sector Program (2003-2008) where a large number of doctors and paramedics are now involved either in government, NGO or private clinics to serve both urban and rural population. In recent years, MR is increasingly available and knowledge of MR among women of reproductive age is quite high (81.5%) (Akhter, H, H, 2006). However, limited study has been done in the assessment of quality of MR Service and it is therefore important to document the current status of MR services in terms of quality of care across public and NGO sectors.
