What makes them "stick" - an exploratory qualitative research into factors that contribute to clinician retention in the NGO Service Delivery Program in Bangladesh

Abstract

In Bangladesh, as well as a number of developing countries, a growing number of clinical health services provided to the poor and marginalized are from Non-Governmental Organizations [NGOs] who have low operating margins. To continue to provide quality care services to this population base, it is essential to keep high operational cost down such as those associated with clinical human resources for health. While in many western countries there has been research looking at factors that contribute to retention of health staff workers in private clinical and hospital settings, as means for reducing or controlling operating costs, there has been relatively little human resources for health research done in a developing country context such as exists in Bangladesh.
