Mohammad Asifuzzaman

Abstract

HIV/AIDS is not a big threat in Bangladesh as yet. However, the nature of the disease and the geographical location of the country make it a potential candidate for HIV/AIDS epidemic in near future if proper measure is not undertaken now.
There is epidemiological research based evidence illustrating the fact that sexually transmitted diseases (STI) are one of the major risk factors for HIV/AIDS and the most vulnerable group is that of commercial sex workers (CSW). There are lots of studies indicating the fact that STI is quite significantly prevalent amongst CSWs throughout the world. Studies on CSWs in Bangladesh also show similar picture.
Not many organizations in Bangladesh are dealing with STI management program targeting CSWs at present. Bangladesh Women’s Health Coalition (BWHC) is one such non-government organization (NGO), which is providing clinical service for STI to hotel based sex workers in Dhaka city.
